next thing on my list for this one is to be able to make up to 3 announcements, being shown at index in intervals, possibly fading. It is a long way to go since I hardly started and since I am very much a beginner in the programming part, everything will take its time. As soon as I have something releasable (if that ever happens) I will drop it into the development area....

oh, and an option to hide the news from guests. :happysmerk:

questions about the News Block Mod

Postby Catalina » Tue Jan 30, 2007 2:09 pm

:kuhsmilie: i really like the News Block Mod, but i wonder:

1. do you know if it is compatable with the Last 10 Active Topics Mod (or whatever it's called.... it's the one i have on my board and it's in the same spot where the News Block would be)

2. you say this mod has not been validated yet, so is it safe to install?  :scared3:

3. i wasn't sure if i was to post my questions right in your mod announcement thread for this mod or create a new topic such as i am doing.... so my question is: am i using this here MOD support forum correctly? (if you don't want people to reply to your posts in "released MODS" then you should lock those topics)

4. do you know where i put my slippers?

Hi Cat,
1. do you know if it is compatable with the Last 10 Active Topics Mod (or whatever it's called.... it's the one i have on my board and it's in the same spot where the News Block would be)

I do not know the Last 10 active topics mod but do not think that there should be a problem. You can always stick the News Block above or below the topics mod.  :happysmerk:

2. you say this mod has not been validated yet, so is it safe to install?

It has been submitted but have not heard back from them. It is running on this board. As far as I am concerned it is good to go. :) If you want to wait for validation but still use the News Block Mod you can install the previous version which had been validated at the time. :sulk:

3. i wasn't sure if i was to post my questions right in your mod announcement thread for this mod or create a new topic such as i am doing.... so my question is: am i using this here MOD support forum correctly? (if you don't want people to reply to your posts in "released MODS" then you should lock those topics)

I am not either, I created the forums first, had the Mods locked initially but
than unlocked them. I think I will merge them with the Mod thread as people do not need to search around to see if questions have been asked before ...

4. do you know where i put my slippers?

Of course I do

If you need any help with installing give me a shout  :yessir:

Actually, I went back to the validator and asked him for some comments. In my view 1.2.0 was good to go but then I might have missed something.

ok, the dannyscats, the original author has decided (after 11 months of absence) to continue with his mod (version 1.0.4 and earlier) so I will be releasing my work as a separate mod...

For anyone, who has upgraded to version 1.3.1, I will write a downgrade instruction so that they end up back to the original mod version 1.0.4.

If you have version 1.3.1 of the News Block installed and would like to continue with its features I would recommend uninstalling version 1.3.1 and installing this one.

EDIT:
I changed my mind, I will in the next couple of days provide an instructions file on how to convert from News Block Mod 1.3.1 to ACP Announcement Centre 1.0.0. so those of you who would like to convert can do this easily.

Hi, I am using it on this site if that is what you mean...

I just changed the color for some of the text for registered users so you can see that guests see a different message.

Hi Fiskebonden,

I would think this should be possible.
Would you happen to have a link of the mod you are using now?

Also, a copy of the file (I assume overall_header.tpl) where you have your announcements showing at the moment would be nice as I do not know the template you are using.

p.s. your english is way better than my danish

thanks Fiskebonden, i will have a look at it later.

The problem at the moment is that you have the announcements in the overall_header.tpl and the bbcode and smilies would not show up properly with my mod.

I did post one solution on phpbb.com how to include it in overall_header but I am exploring another way at the moment.

Fiskebonden,
i had a quick look.
If you want the Announcement displayed in the overall_header.tpl, I have currently no better solution than the following at the moment.

1. BACKUP YOUR DATABASE FIRST, I only tested this on a few pages.

If you have a testsite please test it there first!

Code: Select all
